What to expect from your consultation

What happens before my first consultation?

As soon as you book, you'll be asked to complete a questionnaire online and keep a seven day food diary. Health questions are intentionally detailed to provide adequate information ahead of your consultation. All information will make a big difference to the time we spend together building your health profile.

What happens during my first consultation?

The initial consultation will be 90 minutes. During this time, I will  evaluate your medical history, family history, lifestyle and social influences, and dietary intake. I'll ask you to identify your key symptoms which we'll measure using a MYMOP system. You will also be asked about areas you'd like to focus and work on, along with any health goals.

I will ask a lot of questions as we work our way through all the body's systems one-by-one, identifying any functional areas that require support.

Using a naturopathic approach, I look to identify the root cause of your symptoms and analyse the body as a whole, creating an entire health and wellbeing picture.

Nutritional therapy is suitable for those who are looking for support with serious health issues as well as those who want to build on an already good health foundation.

Your plan will provide practical, achievable advice whilst taking into consideration any financial and personal limitations, enabling you to feel comfortable and confident with any changes we decide to make.

Nutritional/ functional testing

We'll also discuss whether you require any functional tests. These may be through your own GP or completed through a private registered professional laboratory. Tests are unintrusive, requiring a sample of blood, urine, hair, saliva or your stools and most can be easily conducted in the comfort of your own home.

How long after my initial consultation will I wait for my plan?

A uniquely tailored nutritional action plan will be sent by email at the start of our 30 minute 'plan delivery session', a week after your initial appointment. This can be arranged in person at my clinic, or via Zoom, whichever your preference. I like to talk you through the plan and provide an understanding of why I've made the recommendations I have. It also provides the opportunity for me to brief you on what I think is driving your symptoms and how changes implemented will support your body in dealing with them.

This time also gives you the chance to ask any questions you may have about the plan, for example where to buy certain items, how to meal plan, which brands are best etc.

Your plan will include action points on dietary and lifestyle changes with information sheets and recipes to help you implement changes. You will also receive a personalised supplement programme and information about conducting health tests (if required).

Follow up consultations

Follow-up consultations are 45-60 minutes long and are scheduled six weeks after your first consultation. They provide an opportunity for you to ask any questions about your ongoing programme, discuss any changes you're experiencing, facilitate any tweaks to your plan/supplement regime necessary and analysis of any test results acquired.

Nutritional therapy is a step-by-step process. Quite often we work towards not one but many goals or outcomes and these vary in the length of time required to see positive results depending on severity of the health issues faced.

After your follow up you will receive another updated and adjusted plan.

How many consultations will I need?

It's totally dependent on you and your health goals and aims but usually a client will have a follow-up appointment within 6-8 weeks of their initial consultation, then a further follow up  6-8 weeks later.

In some circumstances, subsequent consultations may be needed at regular intervals in order to deal with complex health issues. I will always be available for support when needed, as much or as little is totally dependent on you and will be mutually agreed.

My approach and ultimate aim is to give you the tools necessary to enable your body to support and take care of itself, re-establishing balance, health and wellbeing.

Nutritional therapy should not be used as a substitute for medical advice from your medical health care professional. If you have any concerns about your health it is always recommended that you speak to your health care advisor first before undertaking a nutritional therapy consultation.

Nutritional therapists are trained to identify 'red flag' symptoms and always will refer clients to their GP as standard practice when necessary. Practitioners will also frequently work alongside and collaborate with other medical professionals involved in your care. Nutritional Therapy is a recognised complementary therapy but cannot by law claim to treat or cure any named condition.
